We are the Butlers and we live in the beautiful Cascades of Washington State – a far cry from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We fell into this business slowly.

Our Granny is the one got Shakoshi off the ground as a way to help her friends in the DRC. She began by training, teaching, encouraging and leading. The sewing co-op was one of her many projects she helped get started. To learn more about her and what she is doing in Africa, you can go to www.moriahafrica.org. She started bringing Shakoshi bags to us by the duffel bagful to sell to our friends. That worked for awhile.

The tailors needed someone to take off with the business and grow it into something that would keep going. They needed someone in a large, modern, internet-savvy marketplace to go crazy. Someone likes us. We love the idea of Shakoshi and what it means to the lives of so many. Of course, we love the bags too!
